Interesting indeed!! I knew my ethnicity from what I was told by my parents. Yes, I’m bi-racial and knew this my whole life. What I didn’t know was the exact or estimation of what my ethnicity was from my parents. I know my dad is of Asian decent. He is Hmong and was born in Laos. So seeing the Asia East wasn’t a surprise to me. Asia Central was kind of but not really a surprise to me. From the stories that was told to me about the Hmong migration and the history of the Hmong people, seeing Asia Central made sense to me. So I didn’t question it. I just thought “hey this fits with the oral history that was told to me”.
I know my mom is of Caucasian decent. She told me before I tested that all she knows is that she is Scandinavian and Dutch. So seeing Scandinavia wasn’t a surprise to me at all. Neither was the Europe West and Great Britain. What was a surprise to me as well as my mom, was the Ireland, Iberian Peninsula and Italy/Greece. What? I’m Irish? Who would have thought. I joked with my mom and said to her well now on St. Patty’s day we can official say “Kiss Me, I’m Irish”. Haha. My mom said to me “Geez, know wonder why I can drink by butt off and not get sick or have hangovers. It all makes sense now cause I drink like an Irish person”.
Out of all of my ethnic estimation, the most surprising result was the Pacific Islander. 6% Polynesian. Fascinating!!! This has to come from my dad. I would have never thought in a million years that I would have any DNA of the Polynesian people. This is awesome! Now I’ve got to do research on them and find the connecting line.
This is definitely a fun experience and I’m so glad that I did it!
